What Is Peptide Therapy?
Peptides are short chains of amino acids: individual amino acids linked by peptide bonds, shorter than a full protein. Most act as signaling molecules, sending your body a specific instruction, releasing a hormone, supporting a pathway, or correcting a deficiency.
Some are naturally occurring peptides your body already makes, called endogenous peptides. Others are synthetic peptides, built in a lab. Bioactive peptides are just the umbrella term for any peptide, natural or synthetic, that does something measurable. That's why peptides show up everywhere from molecular science research to everyday wellness clinics. Per Harvard Health Publishing, peptides already power several FDA-approved peptide medications, injectable insulin for blood sugar being the best-known example, so this isn't new science, just a newer wellness trend.
One quick distinction worth knowing: peptides aren't anabolic steroids, despite the peptides-steroids mix-up you'll hear casually. Steroids are synthetic hormone copies.
What Types of Peptide Therapy Does Prometheuz Offer?
Some clinics list a dozen or more peptides on their menu. Prometheuz offers three, chosen for a clearer evidence base and a cleaner regulatory footing than most options. A licensed clinician determines which one, if any, is appropriate for you, not a self-selected menu item.
1. NAD+
NAD+ (nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide) is a coenzyme cells use to make ATP, their main energy source, and it also plays a role in DNA repair. It's not FDA-approved for wellness or anti-aging use, and human data is still limited: studies show supplementation can raise blood NAD+ levels, but it hasn't yet been shown to improve outcomes. Some patients try it for energy or mental clarity, always reviewed individually with a clinician, not assumed as a guaranteed effect.
2. Sermorelin: A Growth Hormone Secretagogue
Sermorelin is a growth hormone-releasing hormone (GHRH) analog, a type of growth hormone secretagogue. It signals your pituitary gland to boost growth hormone secretion, rather than supplying growth hormone directly. Its branded version had a narrow pediatric FDA approval decades ago; adult use today is compounded and off-label. Patients typically try it for sleep, recovery, or body composition, including muscle mass and muscle growth, and it's only available at Prometheuz to patients 25 and older. Injection site reactions are the most common side effect.

3. B12-MIC
B12-MIC combines vitamin B12 with methionine, inositol, and choline, together called lipotropic agents for their role in fat and cholesterol metabolism. B12 alone is FDA-approved for a diagnosed deficiency; the combination is off-label. It works best for patients with confirmed low B12, since it corrects an actual nutrient gap rather than sending a broader signal. As with any injectable, allergic reactions are possible, which is why it's prescribed under medical supervision, not sold directly.
Injectable Peptides, Peptide Injections, and Other Delivery Methods
Beyond what Prometheuz offers, a few other peptide categories come up often enough to be worth knowing, even though they aren't prescribed here.
BPC 157 and TB-500: Research-Stage Peptides for Tissue Repair
BPC 157, derived from a protein found in the digestive tract, is studied preclinically for wound healing and tissue repair, including recovery from joint injury. Proposed mechanisms involve vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), a growth factor tied to blood vessel formation, but most evidence is from animal studies, not human clinical evidence. TB-500 (thymosin beta-4), often paired with BPC 157 as a "Wolverine Blend," targets similar tissue-repair goals and lacks approval.
CJC-1295, Ipamorelin, and Tesamorelin: More Growth Hormone Secretagogues
Sermorelin isn't the only growth hormone secretagogue out there. CJC-1295 and Ipamorelin, often paired together, work similarly by boosting growth hormone secretion; neither is FDA-approved for any use. Tesamorelin is the exception: it's FDA-approved, but only for excess abdominal fat in adults with HIV-associated lipodystrophy, not anti-aging, weight loss, or muscle mass goals.
Copper Peptides (GHK Cu) for Skin and Anti-Aging
GHK Cu, a copper peptide, is studied for skin barrier support, skin rejuvenation, and skin health, usually in topical anti-aging cosmetics rather than prescribed medication. Natural peptides like GHK Cu exist in the body in small amounts, but cosmetic versions are synthesized separately.
Collagen Peptides and Hydrolyzed Collagen: A Different Category Entirely
Collagen peptides, usually sold as hydrolyzed collagen powders, are broken-down collagen protein marketed for skin, joint, and gut health as a dietary supplement, not prescription peptide therapy.
PT-141, Semax, and Epithalon: A Few Other Names You'll See
A few other peptides show up often enough on wellness menus to mention. PT-141 (bremelanotide) is FDA-approved as Vyleesi, but only for hypoactive sexual desire disorder in premenopausal women. Semax and Epithalon are research-stage peptides studied for cognitive and longevity goals, with no FDA approval either way. As experimental compounds, all three sit in a very different evidence and oversight category from the FDA-approved peptide medications above.
Peptide Drugs and FDA-Approved Medications: What's the Difference?
Not every peptide drug carries the same regulatory weight, worth knowing before you commit to any targeted therapy. FDA-approved medications go through a formal review for a specific use; injectable insulin and glucagon-like peptide (GLP-1) drugs for blood sugar control and weight loss are common examples already in wide use, alongside other peptide-based medications. Compounded peptides, including the Sermorelin and NAD+ Prometheuz prescribes, are peptide-based treatments that aren't FDA-approved products themselves, prescribed off-label under individual clinical judgment, not that same formal review.
A clinician screens for cardiovascular disease risk, immune function, and other underlying conditions before prescribing any of these, approved or not, since medication interactions and health status both affect what's appropriate.
How Many Kinds of Peptides Actually Exist?
Far more than any single clinic offers. Researchers have identified thousands of naturally occurring peptides, but only a little over 100 have been studied enough for treatment, certain peptides with real clinical trials behind them. That's why a shorter, more selective menu is often the more responsible one.
What's the Best Peptide Therapy for You?
There isn't a single best option, only a best fit for what you're actually addressing. A confirmed B12 deficiency needs a different answer than sleep and recovery concerns. This is different again from general energy and cellular metabolism goals.
That's also why peptide therapy isn't something to self-select from a list. Labs, health history, and a licensed clinician's review determine whether a given compound fits, and whether a non-peptide option like TRT or GLP-1 treatment might address the issue better than any peptide would.
